The Ilfrit: Jinn, Demon, or Devil? My Personal Encounters

Discover the enigmatic Ilfrit: fiery beings tied to Jinn and Shaytan. Read about my personal encounters and their role in spiritual awakening.

The Ilfrit, often described as a powerful and fiery entity, is a name that resonates deeply within Islamic folklore. These beings are believed to be a type of Jinn—spiritual entities created from smokeless fire. My own encounters with these enigmatic beings have forever changed my perspective on the unseen world.

This is my story and reflections on the nature of the Ilfrit, their connection to Shaytan, and what these experiences have taught me about spirituality.

The Awakening and the Persistent Knocks

During a profound spiritual awakening, I began experiencing an intense shift in my reality. It felt as though the veil between the physical and spiritual worlds had been lifted, exposing truths I could no longer ignore.

Amid this period of heightened awareness, something peculiar began happening every night. At exactly 3 a.m., I was woken by three distinct knocks on my second-floor bedroom window. This continued for months, to the point where I became so accustomed to the pattern that I would wake up on the first knock. These disturbances were relentless, happening several times each night, leaving me physically and emotionally drained.

Determined to reclaim my peace, I began practising banishing rituals. I combined the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram (LBRP) with a Wiccan spell and called upon eight angels for protection. This spiritual armor gave me the courage to face whatever was haunting me.

The Shadow Panther and the Entity’s Last Attempt

The morning after my first banishing ritual, I left for work. As an electrician, I was at a client’s home and stepped outside to retrieve tools from my van. When I opened the door, I saw a shadowy, panther-like figure that darted behind my vehicle as though I had startled it.

That evening, as I lay in bed preparing to sleep, the entity revealed itself during the liminal state between wakefulness and sleep—a time when my clairvoyant abilities are strongest.

It appeared right in front of me: black-skinned, with sharp teeth and enormous horns that stretched from its forehead to behind its back. Its sinister energy was palpable, but I refused to engage in fear. Instead, I asserted myself:

“Leave now! Leave now! Leave now!”

I rolled over and turned my back to it, severing its hold over me. That was the last time I encountered this particular entity. The next day, while researching online, I stumbled upon an image that resembled the being I saw. It was identified as an Ilfrit, labeled “The Most Powerful Jinn.” See the picture below. It resembled the entity on the left although the one on the right is more accurate, without the fire.

The Shaytan and Their Connection to the Ilfrit

In Islamic tradition, the Shaytan (plural: Shayateen) are entities associated with evil and misguidance. The term “Shaytan” refers to those who rebel against God’s will, whether they are Jinn, humans, or other beings.

Ilfrit are often categorized as a type of Shaytan. These beings are known for their fiery, malevolent nature and their ability to influence or harm humans. According to Islamic teachings, Jinn have free will, much like humans, meaning they can choose to be righteous or rebellious. The Ilfrit, however, are generally associated with darkness and chaos, aligning them with the Shayateen.

Shaytan is often used interchangeably with the concept of “devil” in the West, but it is a broader term that encompasses various malevolent forces. The most infamous Shaytan in Islamic tradition is Iblis, who refused to bow to Adam and was cast out of Heaven. Some accounts suggest that Ilfrit share similarities with Iblis in their fiery origins and their disdain for humanity.

The Second Encounter: The Red Ilfrit

Years later, I had another encounter with an Ilfrit, but this time, it seemed to happen randomly. As I drifted into sleep, a vivid image filled my mind.

A red, muscular being flew toward me at great speed from the left. Its body was massive, with horns protruding from its head, but it had no legs. Instead, its lower half swirled into a form resembling a genie’s tail. Its appearance was almost a caricature of Satan, with exaggerated features that seemed designed to intimidate.

While I wasn’t scared, I felt an overwhelming sense of terror—a primal, bone-deep shudder that shook my spirit. It was unlike anything I had ever experienced before. I turned over in bed to face away from the entity, and just like that, it vanished, taking the suffocating energy with it.

When I later described the encounter to a Hedge Witch friend, she pointed out the connection between the words “genie” and “Jinn.” This revelation, combined with my research, further solidified my belief that these beings are tied to ancient lore about the Shayateen and their role in the spiritual realms. The below picture is as close as I could get to it on Midjourney but without the fire.

Ilfrit and the Battle for Energy

One thing that became clear through these experiences is that Ilfrit feed on human energy, especially fear, anger, and despair. They thrive in environments charged with negativity, which is why spiritual resilience is so crucial.

The first Ilfrit seemed to latch onto me during a vulnerable time, using my energy as its sustenance. Only when I took active steps to banish it and protect my energy was I able to break free. The second encounter felt more like a test or random act of intimidation, but it reaffirmed my belief in the importance of spiritual boundaries.

Are Ilfrit Jinn, Demons, or Devils?

The question of whether Ilfrit are Jinn, demons, or devils depends on the lens through which you view them. From an Islamic perspective, they are a type of Jinn and often act as Shaytan due to their malevolent nature. In Western contexts, they might be seen as demons or devils because of their alignment with chaos and destruction.

My encounters suggest that these beings exist on a spectrum. They are neither purely evil nor entirely symbolic but complex entities with their own agendas.

Lessons from the Ilfrit

These experiences taught me invaluable lessons about the unseen world. Spiritual practices like banishing rituals, protection spells, and angelic invocations are powerful tools for asserting control over your energy.

If you encounter something similar, remember that you have the power to stand your ground. Fear feeds these entities, but intention and resilience can sever their hold.
